11 months old

Our little Sophie is not so little anymore; today she is 11 months old and weighs close to 21lbs. and has 2 small teeth on the bottom. As an 11 month old, Sophie has mastered many new skills, as well as working on others. She enjoys going up the stairs, but can’t quite come down them by herself, yet. Her preferred view of the world is upside down and likes to throw herself back while in your arms or on the bed. She is a speedy crawler and is now pulling herself up on chairs and sofas and walks along with the help of hands.

Sophie now expresses herself more readily and is extremely pleased when she sees dogs. In fact, her vocabulary now includes the words dog, duck, mama, papa, nana, bath (bath is also used for the baby pool or lake), baba “baby” and “buk” book. She points at her blankie and says “ba”. Actually, “ba” is used for a lot of things now, such as, birds and her cup with a straw. Sophie is also bilingual, too and signs, says and understands “mas”. If she really wants to communicate something she finds important she starts talking really fast and loud.

Some of Sophie’s favorite pastimes are crawling on top of Saddie (her Aunt Brittany’s dog), giving Saddie hugs on the belly and playing with Saddie’s paws and tale. Needless to say, Macky and Rosie are glad Sophie is picking on someone else other than them and hope Saddie will hang around a little longer. Brittany has introduced Sophie to rock climbing by assisting her in climbing up the plastic slide in our backyard. Sophie is very driven to getting up and keeps practicing. Yesterday, we stopped in Sterling, NE and Sophie was intent on crawling up the twisty slide all by herself.

Since our daughter is so busy, she has a good appetite and eats most foods well. She definitely has a sweat tooth and prefers fruits and ice cream, but readily eats veggies and bits of meat. When tired though or just waking up, she still prefers good old fashion nursing with mama.

Sergio and I can’t believe a whole year has almost past and Sophie will soon be celebrating her first birthday. It has been a busy year. Our first in Pueblo. Sergio is now a second year family practice resident and Megan now has one year of motherhood under her belt. We are excited to see what the next year will bring and will continue to share our Sophie with friends and family.
