It takes a town to raise a child (and bike paths, front porches, sidewalks and a local corner store.)

Our First Camping Trip
This weekend, was our first real camping trip as a family because Annie and Misha came along for the outing.

For Annie, one of the best things about getting outdoors were the soft silky sleeping bags. (Thanks Brooke for the extra ones!)

Sergio and I set up camp and the kids played in the tent and weren't that interested in leaving it. Made me wonder, why didn't we just set up the tent in the backyard? It would have been so much easier!

We camped in Salida, a small mountain town 90 miles to the west of Pueblo.

And played in the river.

At the end of the day, we arrived back at the campsite and I put together Pigs in a Blanket. Here, Luca doesn't want me to take his picture and Sergio isn't too thrilled either. I found my Pigs in the Blanket recipe needs a little revision.

Good-Bye Brooke and Safe Travels!
On Thursday, (Sergio's and my 10 year wedding anniversary), Brooke flew from Fairbanks, through Denver, in route to Brazil. Finishing up one NOLS course to start another. Talk about extremes. Brooke goes from kayaking on Alaska's Prince Williams sound to navigating the wilds and waters of the Amazon.
Happily for us, we needed to be in Denver that day for an appointment and so we met Brooke mid-morning. Can you tell these two will miss their Auntie? We will have to figure out skype and the postal service to stay in contact.
On the way home, Annie and I talked. I was in the front seat with Annie sitting behind me.
Annie: "I want to go in the airplane. I want to go with Brooke."
Me: "Brooke is going far away to Brazil."
Annie: "I want to go far away. I want to go to Brazil."
Me: "Someday we'll go and visit Brooke."
Annie: "I want to go now."
I thought, me too, but I'm still recovering from Panama. Poor Annie. She didn't go with us to Panama, but has already gotten the airplane and travel bug.
